Emily Newton Selected to Serve as Chancellor for a Day on October 7, 2015

Emily NewtonEmily Newton is a first generation college student and a Psychology major at FSU. After obtaining an Associate degree in Applied Science in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, she decided that she wanted a bachelor’s degree and enrolled at FSU. Her ultimate major career goal is to be a Physician Assistant.

Emily is the Chief Copy Editor and a Writer for the Voice, our student newspaper. She is Activities Coordinator for the FSU Honors Club, recipient of “Making It My Own” Award, and was a speaker for the Distinguished Honors Student Speaker Series. Recognized for her scholarship, she was on the Chancellor’s Honors List, and shares her knowledge as a Supplemental Instructional Leader for PHIL 110 Critical Thinking.

Emily has devoted many hours to community organizations. She has served as the YMCA youth soccer coach for 3-5 year olds, Lector Coordinator at the Main Post Chapel on Fort Bragg, as a volunteer Nurse at the CARE Clinic for uninsured people, and is a volunteer at God’s Little Blessings Daycare. She is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Emily noted that she is “beyond proud” to be at FSU, and would be even prouder to be Chancellor for a Day. “I’d love to be a part of the administrative process, to gain experience in the decision making process, and to gain some understanding of the leadership skills required for managing a multifaceted organization,” quoted Emily. “I want to be an inspiration to others so that they, too, can know it’s not your situations that defines you, it’s your attitude, your motivation, and your drive.”
